How I didn t learn Spanish with Duolingo
2379. I talked to my Professor who is from Spain and she said the answer should be “No lo creo” No creo by itself means I dont believe – NOT I dont believe so The “so” should not be in the sentence if the answer is “No creo”. I also had “.no lo creo,” but it was marked wrong. Why was “Lo siento, no lo creo.”

Personally I think Duolingo should focus on the more common expressions. ‘Pienso que no’ is a direct translation of ‘I don’t think so’ which practically nobody uses IRL. ‘No (lo) creo’ is a much more common way of saying the same thing. Sure, it can also mean ‘I don’t believe (it)’ or ‘I don’t believe so’ (same meaning).

The spanish in duo lingo is like “latin American university spanish”…..its like, theoretical. In terms of number of speakers and cultural prominence, it’s basically the same Duo does for Portuguese, in that it teaches Brazilian variety. (Although it makes it clearer there by using the Brazilian flag.)
